Nic Wood — Clever Computer Crew
Nic Wood is a technology consultant and business transformation specialist with thirty years of experience helping organisations work better — across defence, nuclear, utilities, finance, and public services, and more recently with small businesses, charities, and social enterprises across the North East.
Nic founded Clever Computer Crew to tackle a problem he'd seen throughout his career: organisations investing in technology and getting far less from it than they should, not because the tools were wrong, but because the processes around them hadn't been designed to work properly.
His talks combine Lean thinking with practical Microsoft 365 experience to give business owners and operations leaders something genuinely useful — an honest look at where operational friction comes from, why it's so persistent, and what it actually takes to fix it. No jargon. No sales pitch. Just practical insight from someone who has spent three decades watching organisations work harder than they need to.
Nic is based in Spennymoor, County Durham, and works with organisations across the North East and remotely across the UK.
Available for: breakfast and evening networking events, chamber and FSB sessions, sector-specific workshops, and panel discussions on digital transformation, operational efficiency, and AI readiness for small organisations.

Talks
Why your organisation is busy but work still feels slow
Duration: 15–20 minutes
The starting point most business owners recognise immediately: the team is working hard, the calendar is full, and yet important things move slowly and the same problems keep coming back. This talk uses Lean thinking to explain why — and gives the audience three specific things they can look at in their own organisation the following morning. Microsoft 365 features as the practical tool at the end, but the talk is about operations, not technology.
The hidden cost of how your team shares information
Duration: 15–20 minutes
Files in six places. Decisions buried in email chains. Documents that belong to individuals rather than the organisation. This talk puts a real number on the time organisations lose to information friction — and shows, with concrete examples, how straightforward it is to fix. Every business owner in the room will recognise at least one of the scenarios. Most will recognise all of them..
Before you buy Copilot, read this
Duration: 15–20 minutes
AI is everywhere in the conversation right now and most small business owners are somewhere between curious and confused about what to do with it. This talk cuts through the noise — explaining honestly what Microsoft Copilot does, why it's powerful in the right environment, and why buying it before your organisation is ready is an expensive mistake. Practical, balanced, and useful whether the audience ends up buying Copilot or not.
