Nic Wood

Technology consultant and business transformation specialist. Talks that give business owners and operations leaders something genuinely useful — no jargon, no sales pitch, just practical insight from someone who has spent thirty years watching organisations work harder than they need to.

Talks

Three talks, each 15–20 minutes, built for business owner and SME audiences. Practical, conversational, and designed to leave the room with something they can act on — not just think about.

Why your organisation is busy but work still feels slow

The starting point most business owners recognise immediately: the team is working hard, the calendar is full, and yet important things move slowly and the same problems keep coming back. This talk uses Lean thinking to explain why — and gives the audience three specific things they can look at in their own organisation the following morning. Microsoft 365 features as the practical tool at the end, but the talk is about operations, not technology.

Duration
15–20 min

The hidden cost of how your team shares information

Files in six places. Decisions buried in email chains. Documents that belong to individuals rather than the organisation. This talk puts a real number on the time organisations lose to information friction — and shows, with concrete examples, how straightforward it is to fix. Every business owner in the room will recognise at least one of the scenarios. Most will recognise all of them.

Duration
15–20 min

Before you buy Copilot, read this

AI is everywhere in the conversation right now and most small business owners are somewhere between curious and confused about what to do with it. This talk cuts through the noise — explaining honestly what Microsoft Copilot does, why it's powerful in the right environment, and why buying it before your organisation is ready is an expensive mistake. Practical, balanced, and useful whether the audience ends up buying Copilot or not.

Duration
15–20 min

About Nic

Nic Wood is a technology consultant and business transformation specialist with thirty years of experience helping organisations work better — across defence, nuclear, utilities, finance, and public services, and more recently with small businesses, charities, and social enterprises across the North East.

Nic founded Clever Computer Crew to tackle a problem he'd seen throughout his career: organisations investing in technology and getting far less from it than they should, not because the tools were wrong, but because the processes around them hadn't been designed to work properly.

Based in Spennymoor, County Durham. Works with organisations across the North East and remotely across the UK.

What to expect

No slides full of bullet points. Nic talks to the room, not at it — conversational, direct, and built around examples the audience will recognise from their own businesses.
No sales pitch. The talks are designed to be useful whether the audience engages Clever Computer Crew afterwards or not.
Something to act on. Every talk ends with specific, practical steps the audience can take the following morning.
Flexible format. 15–20 minutes as a standalone talk, or extended to 30–40 minutes with Q&A for workshop formats.
Minimal requirements. A microphone if the room needs one. No AV beyond that unless you want it.
